Support Local: Bourbons Bistro

The COVID-19 virus has affected all of us in some way.  Hopefully, you or your family members are not some of the infected.  Even those not suffering physically are impacted in many other ways.  One such impact we have seen in each of our cities and neighborhoods is the mandated closure of restaurants to all but carry-out or delivery orders.  This is especially painful for the locally-owned establishments.

We at the ABV Network and The Whiskey Corner would like to do what we can to help promote the most Bourbon-friendly restaurants especially during this time.  Today, we’ll start with one that Brent Elliott of Four Roses calls “a Bourbon landmark that is still the center of the Bourbon map today” and that is Bourbons Bistro.

Bourbons Bistro was founded in 2005 as the first Bourbon-focused restaurant anywhere.  While he would rather be celebrating his restaurant’s 15th anniversary with his community and customers, Bourbons Bistro’s owner, Jason Brauner, has had to adjust to a carryout operation due to the government-mandated prohibition of in-house dining. Recommendations:

I could make this easy and simply say “everything”, however, I’ll provide a few specific suggestions for you.  Earlier this year I had a filet and it exceeded my expectations.  It was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time.  The pork chop is always a winner.  I’ve enjoyed it quite a few times over the years.  The Wife is a big fan of the shrimp and grits and the hamburger, too.

I used the carryout service this week and it worked very smoothly. The Wife and I split two appetizers: the Knob Creek chicken wings and the country pork belly cornbread.  They were delicious and held up very well for the drive home.  The wings are always good and I’ve ordered them quite often.  The country pork belly cornbread is a new menu item and it is amazing.  It is my new favorite.

Of course it is not the same as being able to sit at the bar and chat with Mike and Emma as they pour your drinks.  And I missed eating in the restaurant with great service from the likes of Courtney and missed visiting with Chef Jereme or Jason as they make their rounds from table to table.  I did get to see Margot, house manager, as she was the one who took my order by text and brought my order to the patio when it was ready.

Bourbons Bistro always gets my highest recommendation.  The quality of the food is not diminished by having to go to carryout service. However, I’ll look forward to dining in again soon and helping Jason and his team celebrate their 15th anniversary.

Reminder

Please keep all your local businesses in mind during this Coronavirus shutdown.  They are doing all they can to continue to serve you and your community and they need your support.  Finally, please remember to tip when you pay even when doing carryout.
