Game of Thrones is one of my favorite TV shows of all time and I have waited over a year to see the final season. I have paired different bourbons with different characters depending on their characteristics. This list may contain spoilers if you are not caught up so be aware and do not read any further if you do not wish to see an updated character list. I look forward to seeing who is left at the close of the series. Enjoy!

Jon Snow- Henry McKenna Single Barrel (Odds +800)
He was a nobody and rose up the ranks to be one of the most powerful men in the kingdom. Henry Mckenna was once a nobody, known only by ones close to bourbon, but now demands the attention of the whole kingdom. This bonded bourbon has a maturity that is lacking in most other well known bottles.
(Dead) Daenerys Targaryen- Blanton’s Single Barrel (Odds +1500)
Daenerys is a fierce leader, with a legendary last name. She will do just about anything to regain the throne. Blanton’s is a legend in bourbon history, and its legacy stretches back almost as far back as Daenerys’. It’s no coincidence Daenerys has a soft spot for horses. The quality of the spirit is one of a kind and keeps you coming back for more, if you can find it.
Sansa Stark- Elijah Craig Small Batch (Odds +400)
Sansa is the most even-keeled of all the remaining Stark family. However, she is not to be messed with. Her Stark blood always gives her a chance to claim the throne. She seems sweet and innocent, but mess with one of her own and she drops the hammer. Elijah Craig Small Batch shares a similar lineage and even- temper, yet, is frequently a front runner when compared to other bourbons. This bottle seems innocent, but can dominate the more expensive bottles if need be.
Arya Stark- Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (Odds +3000)
Arya is sort of a loose cannon. She is extremely deadly, but occasionally is seen acting like a child. Her claim to the thrown is resting on her being able to control her emotions. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof comes in hot, however, has enough gentleness to relax you right before it knocks your socks off. Don’t let this bottle out of your sight. It may be plotting against you.
Bran Stark- Elijah Craig 18 Year old (Odds -500)
Bran’s path to the throne has been extremely rocky. His character is very valuable, as it has changed the direction of the entire series. His visions can be helpful to some and hard to handle by others. Elijah Craig 18-year-old has many years under its belt, but sometimes foreseeing an 18-year-old bourbon doesn’t always turn out how you would want. You may find a rich flavorful bourbon, or you may encounter an over-oaked mess. When is too much wisdom a bad thing? We shall see.
(Dead) Cersei Lannister- Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Cersei is about as fierce as they come in the realm. The heartache of all that has been lost around her drives her to rule the kingdom. Wild Turkey Rare Breed has enough sweetness to charm the pants off just about anybody and enough punch to stab you in the back when you aren’t looking. When backed into a corner both of these come out fighting.
(Dead) Jaime Lannister- Wild Turkey 101
Jaime is a tried and true warrior. His loyalty to his sister may be tested this season if he wants the throne. His past is checkered, but with a little time wounds may heal. He seems to be better at following orders instead of giving them, but with one change of direction, the throne could be his for the taking. Wild Turkey 101 may have fueled many college parties and some people may be turned away as a result now, but don’t let your past keep you from looking at it like the warrior it is. This bourbon has seen it all and can handle just about everything you throw at it. Everybody wishes they had a bourbon like this in their lineup.
Tyrion Lannister- Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel (Odds +750)
Tyrion may be small, but don’t let his stature fool you. He has spent a lifetime surviving and advancing. He is one of the most sophisticated characters left and as such, must stick to his strengths if he wants the throne. Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel is an extremely complex and sophisticated bourbon. It doesn’t have strength like other bourbons, but after several delicious glasses you might find yourself out of commission before you even realize it.
Bronn- Old Weller Antique 107 (Odds +20,000
Bronn is your friend if the money keeps flowing and has made quite a fortune in the first 7 seasons. His claim to the throne is tied to the backs of others. Although, he must drop the sellsword mentality and forge his own path if he wants the throne. Old Weller Antique 107 is a smooth wheated bourbon that has a good kick to it. Like Bronn, this bourbon fetches a hefty price, not necessarily on retail, but on the secondary. Bronn is good at leveraging your desperation to up the price for his services or whatever devilish plan you have. Don’t get me wrong, the juice is good, but don’t get caught in need of it or you may pay the price.
(Dead) Varys- Jefferson’s Reserve
Varys is one of those characters who always has the information you want. He knows the happenings and goings on in just about every part of the realm. His ability to make him needed and adapt is uncanny. He melds well with other cultures and has enough sophistication to manipulate people. He needs to join with the right people and discard them at the right time if he wants the throne. Jefferson’s Reserve is a sophisticated, complex bourbon blend. Like Varys, this bourbon is artistically blended with different flavors and nuances to create a unique bourbon you keep coming back for. Don’t let the mundane out of a blend fool you, as it still has a few tricks up its sleeve from time to time.
(Dead) Euron Greyjoy- Old Grand Dad 114
Euron is considered one of the most feared men in the series. He is willing to do whatever or kill whomever is needed to get what he wants. He is a vicious warrior and is backed by an intellectual side that makes him incredibly dangerous when he sets his eyes on the throne. Old Grand Dad 114 is a mighty bourbon that also packs a bit of intellect. It's high proof is rounded off by more intellect than you would expect from something that strong. This bourbon will slowly seduce you, laugh with you, and crack dirty jokes with you right before it incapacitates you.
Samwell Tarly- Basil Hayden (Odds +5000)
Samwell is one of those characters where you think he is utterly useless, but carves out a niche and honestly may hold the key to saving the kingdom. He is a bit timid in some situations, but has a maturity to shine through in the right circumstance. Basil Hayden comes in a bit thin in a lot of areas, but has some complexity when not over powered by other flavors. This bourbon is not flashy, but helps transition new drinkers into the world of sipping whiskey and may be the key to saying this bourbon boom.
Davos Seaworth- Rebel Yell 10 Year Old Single Barrel (Odds +15,000)
Davos is extremely loyal to his king, almost to a fault. He takes orders and does whatever he can to accomplish those orders. He says he is not a skilled warrior, but he does enough to win, partly because of his courage and bravery. He’s a bit unrefined but has an eloquence to him that makes him charming in the right situation. Rebel Yell 10-Year-Old can be a bit harsh to some, but does have a complexity to it that makes it shine when needed. It’s able to clumsily stumble through the pallet notes, but somehow leaves you with a good impression.
(DEAD) The Night King- Papppy Van Winkle 23 Year Old
The Night King is the master of all the white walkers. He controls what they do and where they go. His powers are seemingly limitless, and nobody really knows what he wants. Does he want to sit on the throne? Or does he want to turn everybody into white walkers? These questions have yet to be answered. Pappy 23 seems to assert these same abilities. If the words “Pappy raffle” are uttered by a retailer, the masses migrate in that direction. Why is Pappy 23 so special? Most people don’t really know the answer to that, but have all heard tales. We have all heard of the magical powers Pappy Van Winkle possess. It’s one of the oldest bourbons on the market yet doesn’t seem to weaken. It seems to have gotten more powerful as time has gone on. Will the all mighty Pappy 23 sit on the throne?
Gendry- Old Ezra 7 Barrel Strength (Odds +3000)
Gendry is the last of the bloodline Baratheon, and as such, is a courageous and brave figure. He is a skilled blacksmith and attention to detail is one of his best qualities. He also inherited his strength from his father and even though he has no formal training, he is an above average fighter. He is not of noble birth, but that doesn’t change the fact he is a character that has a real chance to sit on the Iron Throne. As it be a small chance, it is still there. Old Ezra 7 Barrel Strength is not of noble birth yet is able to stand up to some of the more notable figures in the bourbon industry. It has a lot of power behind every sip and uses that to its advantage. Its maturity is beyond its stated years and offers a pleasing flavor married with an extremely high proof. This commoner has a real fighter’s chance at sitting on the Iron Throne.
Who Wins?
Only time will tell and I’m sure we will get a few surprises thrown our way. Tune in every week as we see who is eliminated and which bourbon Game of Thrones sits on the Iron Throne in the end. It’s going to be a fun ride.
