Review: Art of the Spirits, Easy Elegance Cask Strength Rye
One cannot help but get swept into the beautiful artwork that covers the bottles of Art of the Spirits whiskeys. The brand features the work of renowned artists on their limited edition whiskey bottles. Like fine art, the Art of the Spirits releases are only available at limited locations while supplies last.
Richard Paul, a Colorado native and founder of Art of the Spirits, has spent over nine years working closely with two very gifted Colorado artists, David Uhl and Danial James. The artists capture the model's spirit with every brushstroke creating a masterpiece label. Richard's ingenuity and vision have paired the beauty and elegance of canvas with fine art in a whiskey bottle, and he’s not going to stop there. Plans are in the works to open a 1920’s style speakeasy located in the ever-trendy downtown Denver area. With a cabaret license, beautiful women (like those from the labels) will surround patrons as they drink and visit with the owner. I, for one, cannot wait.
Art of the Spirits' latest release is the cask strength of their Easy Elegance Rye. The scene depicted on the bottle takes place in the famous #10 Saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota, where the infamous Wild Bill Hickok met his end. Two beauties sip their whiskey with a pistol in hand. You never know what dangers lurk in Deadwood!
The 127.65 proof cask-strength, single-barrel Easy Elegance Rye release is made of 90% Rye, 5% Corn, and 5% malted barley and aged 2.5 years in a new 30-gallon #4 char American oak barrel.
The Review:
Color: Light Copper
Nose: Florals with hints of citrus zest.
Taste: The citrus continues with bits of honey. With water comes more sweets.
Finish: A long finish coating your insides with warmth. The citrus flavors linger with the heat.
Overall: This is an extraordinary pour. The nose opens more after each sip exposing sweets like toasted marshmallow or coconut. It’s a hot one, so a slight splash of water calms the heat in both the smell and taste. It is very enjoyable.
This release is only available from Total Beverage and shipping to a few lucky states. For more information on the whiskey, the art and ordering product visit www.artofthespirits.com.
